Sobre las Olas Sobre las Olas (Over the Waves) was written in the late 1800's by a composer named Juventino Rosas (1868-1894). Unfortunately, very little is known about him as he died at the age of 26 after less than a decade of composing music. The melody was later made popular in the movie The Great Caruso (1951) when Ann Blyth sang the lyrics "When you are in love, it's the loveliest night of the year."
